Creación de una biblioteca pública municipal en Ciudad Rodrigo. Año 1811
Resumen
Ciudad Rodrigo (Salamanca) sufrió un duro asedio de las tropas napoleónicas entre abril y julio de 1810, y a pesar de la heroica resistencia, tuvo que rendirse el 10 del último mes y año citado. Fue reconquistado por las tropas que mandaba el general Wellington, al que luego se daría el título de Duque de Ciudad Rodrigo, pero en el período intermedio, bajo el gobierno intruso francés, se expoliaron las librerías de personas e instituciones, privadas y públicas, para constituir la primera biblioteca pública municipal mirobrigense, datada en 1811. Fue un proceso de aluvión en la aportación de volúmenes, de las más diversas materias e idiomas, fundamentalmente en español, latín y francés, así como de temática religiosa, porque los principales titulares, a los que se privaron de sus bibliotecas, eran las comunidades religiosas de la localidad (dominicos, agustinos y franciscanos), así como los eclesiásticos, especialmente prebendados de la catedral Civitatense.

Absctract
City Rodrigo (Salamanca) suffered a hard siege of the Napoleonic troops between April and July, 1810, and in spite of the heroic resistance, one had to exhaust 10 of last month and mentioned year. It was reconquered by the troops that there was ordering the general Wellington, to whom then would give himself the Duke’s title of City Rodrigo. But in the intermediate period, under the intruder French government, there were pillaged the persons’ bookshops and institutions, private and public, to constitute the first public municipal library mirobrigense, dated in 1811. It was a process of alluvium in the contribution of volumes, of the most diverse matters and languages, fundamentally in Spanish, Latin and Frenchman, as well as of religious subject matter, because the principal holders, which were deprived of his libraries, were the religious communities of the locality (Dominicans, Agustinians and Franciscans), as well as the ecclesiastics, specially canons of the cathedral Civitatense.
