LA EDUCACIÓN DEL ENFERMO MENTAL EN ESPAÑA DURANTE EL SIGLO XIX Y PRIMERA MITAD DEL SIGLO XX

amparo Casado melo RESUMEN: En España, la Ley de Educación Primaria, de 17 de julio de 1945, fue la primera disposición legal que contempló directamente la educación de los retrasados mentales, anteriormente las deficiencias mentales más graves y las más evidentes por sus repercusiones somáticas se trataban en centros asistenciales, manicomios o permanecían en instituciones benéficas. En este artículo mostramos el periplo de las personas enajenadas y el vaivén terminológico para dirigirse a ellos durante el siglo XIX y la primera mitad del siglo XX. Palabras Clave: Educación Especial, segregación, enfermos mentales, deficiencias mentales, dementes, anormales, locos y retrasados mentales. ABSTRACT: In Spain, the Primary Education Act of July 17, 1945, was the first legal provisions which directly treated the education of the mentally retarded. Above, the most severe mental deficiencies and the most evident by its somatic impact were attended in care centers or were kept in charitable institutions. In this article we show the journey of people alienated and swinging terminology to name them during the nineteenth century and first half of the twentieth century.
