HUME’S THEORY OF EMOTIONS: COGNITIVISM “AVANT LA LETTRE” Abstract: The most remarkable aspect of his psychological concern is his study of emotions, which he classifies and analyses from a fully humanistic point of view, being, at the same time, in agreement with the cognitive and constructivist approaches of recent postmodernity. The study covers different kinds of passions (both direct and indirect), as well as the necessary and subsidiary conditions for them to exist. Keywords: Hume, cognitivism, direct and indirect passions, emotions, postmodernity.
