TRIANGULATING THE CIRCLE [A DISCUSSION OF THE HERMENEUTICAL ONTOLOGY THESIS]
ON
THE
MEANING
Abstract: This paper is an attempt to understand the meaning of what we called the hermeneutical ontology thesis: there are no facts, only interpretations. In our view, this thesis could be divided in two different propositions: what things are is always relative to an interpretation, never something in itself, and the phenomenon of interpretation is universal. In the text we expose and debate each of these propositions. The first one based on the early Heidegger, and the second one with help of Gadamer’s and Davidson’s theories of interpretation. At the end, we draw some conclusions about the meaning of the hermeneutical ontology. Key words: Davidson Donald, Gadamer Hans-Georg, Hermeneutical ontology, Triangulation, Hermeneutical circle.
