Evolution of the functions of the university: the medieval university to the middle-class university
Salvador Pérez Muñoz RESUMEN: En el siguiente artículo se realiza una descripción de las funciones de la Universidad desde los siglos XII-XIII hasta finales del siglo XVIII con la llegada de la Universidad burguesa o liberal. La Universidad en Europa, como institución educativa, tiene su origen entre los siglos XII y XIII gracias por un lado a la ayuda de la Iglesia y por otro a la unión de maestros, que estaban bajo la supervisión de la Institución Eclesiástica, dominante en este periodo de la historia. En sus inicios tienen en común una serie de funciones que le son propias, aunque cada Universidad se crea en un espacio concreto, entre ellas la docencia y la transmisión del saber acumulado por la ciencia. Ya en el siglo XVIII aparecen tres modelos de Universidad, francés, alemán y anglosajón y lógicamente tres tipos de funciones: formación para el mercado laboral, investigación y formación científica y formación de élites cualificadas. ABSTRACT: In the following article, a description of the functions of the University is made from century XII-XIII to end of century XVIII with the arrival of the bourgeois or liberal University. The University in Europe, like educative institution, has its origin between centuries XII and XIII thanks on the one hand to the aid of the Church and by another one to the union of teachers, who were under the supervision of the Ecclesiastical Institution, dominant in this period of history. In his beginnings, they have in common a series of functions that are to him own, although each University is believed in a concrete space, among them teaching and the transmission the accumulated knowledge by science. In century XVIII, they already appear three models of University, French, German and Anglo-Saxon and logically three types of functions: formation for the labor market, investigation and scientific formation and formation of coalfaces elites.
