Palabras clave: D. Escoto, G. de Ockham, F. Suárez, R. REALITY: HISTORY OF A WORD FROM ITS LATINS ORIGINS UNTIL ZUBIRI Abstract: This essay is a reconstruction of the word reality from its latin origins up until the metaphysics of Zubiri. Apparently the word realitas was introduced in the scholastic vocabulary by D. Escoto. From this word derives the abstract noun reality with the meaning of existence. It began to be used at the end of the XIV century, but did not manage to consolidate itself until mid XIX century. During the XX century its use became common within the context of the spanish literature and philosophy. The importance of this issue can be seen when we realize that Zubiri´s philosophy, focused on the word reality, would not have been possible if this word had nor existed in our language or had not been consolidated as a commonly used word. We may therefore conclude that all philosophy is historical, and historicity afects not only concepts, but also the words that express them. Key words: D. Escoto, G. de Ockham, F. Suárez, R.
