UNDERSTANDING NATURE: ARISTOTELIAN SCIENCE OF CAUSES Abstract: Facing the “weak thought” of our days, Aristotle defends the possibility of a metaphysical explanation of natural processes, examining the following four causes in each one of them: Material, Formal, Efficient and Final. This method of explanation, like any other, involves relying on indemonstrable axioms and assumptions. There are many levels of explanation. But there is nothing established about the limit of our questions. Therefore, and by way of example, nobody is required to agree with those who believe that, in order to explain human knowledge, it is sufficient to describe the physical processes that take place in our brain when we are thinking. Doing this, it would be like to confuse the melody with its score. Keywords: Aristotle, cause, change, form, generation, movement, natural processes, substance, understand.
