CARAMUEL MATEMÁTICO, CIENTÍFICO Y FILÓSOFO DE LA CIENCIA
Resumen: Pretendemos en este escrito destacar la importante labor de Caramuel como científico en general y como matemático en particular, a la vez que el enfoque de los estudios científicos, su filosofía de la ciencia. Siempre estuvo al tanto, y en situación puntera, de las preocupaciones e innovaciones científicas, participó en los concursos internacionales para la resolución de problemas científicotécnicos, consideró la posibilidad de máquinas y artilugios técnicos a favor del progreso. Como matemático, aparte de su amplio conocimiento en este terreno, contribuyó al desarrollo de esta ciencia en la temática de avanzadilla del momento (como los estudios de la probabilidad, la trisección del ángulo, el interés por la matemática aplicada, etc.). El fino análisis que despliega en la meditación proemial de su obra magna en este campo (Mathesis Biceps) es una magnífica aportación a la filosofía de la matemática. Igualmente merece elogio su enfoque científico, de carácter marcadamente moderno. In addition, his philosophy of science. Thus, we praise his being up to date as well as well-informed regarding all the latest scientific concerns and innovations, his participation in international events dealing with the resolution of scientific and technical problems, and his approach to the possibility of using technical devices in order to contribute to progress. As a mathematician we emphasize his contribution to the development of this area in the most advanced concerns of that time, such as the studies of probability, the trisection of the angle, applied mathematics, etc. The subtle analysis that he uses in Meditatio Proemialis (in Mathesis Biceps) is an outstanding contribution to the philosophy of mathematics. Likewise, his scientific approach, which is remarkably modern, must be praised.
