PRACTICAL TRUTH AS THE KEYSTONE OF ETHICS Abstract: The paper intends to recover the classical distinction between epithymía, thymós and boúlesis, on the one hand, and between intelligible and concupiscible good, on the other. The intimate connection that binds boúlesis to intelligible good is the keystone of ethics. In this connection lies practical truth. What concretely is this kind of truth is considered here. This paper also states that the ethics of happiness does not imply moral subjectivism because happiness should not be conceived in the utilitarian way. “Eudaimonism” not necessarily is what Kant and many phenomenologists thought. This mistake can be clearly seen in Christ’s moral teachings: He did not shrink from using our tendency to happiness but instead revealed to us that happiness lies in donation of the self. Answers are given to the main objections opposed to the ethics of practical truth. These pages do not focus on texts but on things themselves. Key-words: practical truth, boúlesis, intelligible good, happiness, moral absolutes, natural law.
